藤田紘一郎Hiroshi Fujita is a renowned immunologist in Japan. At 82 years old, he hasn't had a major illness or even a cold since he was 55. What’s his secret?

★ Why does drinking "anti-disease vegetable soup" daily boost immunity?

Author's Preface

The key to staying healthy lies in "boosting immunity.
I was previously an orthopedic surgeon. In my thirties, I became involved in immunology, and since then, I have dedicated myself to the study of immunology, practicing as a professional immunologist for about fifty years now.
That being said, despite specializing in immunology, I did not lead a health-conscious lifestyle. Before the age of fifty-five, I ate whatever I wanted, drank without restriction, and paid little attention to my health. I had a history of gout and diabetes, and my hair...

▮To enhance "immunity" and prevent various illnesses

Everyone wishes for "eternal health and longevity." However, how can we truly maintain health and extend our lifespan? The most crucial aspect is building a body that is resistant to illness and capable of recovering smoothly even when sick. To achieve this goal, "immunity" is key.

Immunity refers to the body's ability to resist viruses like the flu and bacteria, helping to prevent diseases or recover swiftly even if infected. Strengthening immunity in daily life can help suppress cancer cell growth, maintain a youthful body, and aid in preventing psychological disorders like depression.

Seventy percent of the body's immune cells reside in the gut. Therefore, to strengthen immunity, it's essential to enhance gut health and inhibit oxidative stress to prevent aging caused by free radicals. The food we eat daily profoundly affects the effectiveness of "strengthening the gut" and "inhibiting oxidative stress." Adjusting dietary habits is crucial to enhancing immunity and building a resilient, healthy body less prone to illness.

▮Seventy percent of "immune cells" are in the intestines; drinking soup daily can strengthen them!

The intestines absorb nutrients from the food we eat and eliminate waste as stool. However, their role goes beyond digestion.

Approximately seventy percent of immune cells are concentrated in the intestines, where gut bacteria activate these cells. There are around two hundred species and up to one hundred trillion gut bacteria. These bacteria are categorized into beneficial, harmful, and opportunistic types, with their balance crucial for health. Opportunistic bacteria align with the dominant strains of beneficial or harmful bacteria depending on the situation.

The ideal ratio of these three types of bacteria is: beneficial bacteria 20%, harmful bacteria 10%, and opportunistic bacteria 70%. Maintaining a predominance of beneficial bacteria is key to strengthening immunity.

To promote beneficial bacteria, it's essential to consume vegetables rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants. Fermented foods are particularly favored by beneficial bacteria and should be included in the diet. Additionally, short-chain fatty acids that enhance intestinal mucosal barrier function are crucial nutrients to incorporate daily.

Therefore, incorporating "immune-boosting vegetable soup" into daily meals can help maintain the golden ratio of gut bacteria and enhance immunity.
